Transaction Data
Information about the number and types of applications we complete.
The dataset
Transaction Data shows how many customer applications we completed in the previous month.
The dataset is available to access on the 15th working day of the month and contains information from the previous month. For example, files published in April show the transactions we completed in March.
We publish 5 different versions of this dataset.
There are 2 datasets listed by location:
- number of applications in England and Wales divided by location
- number of applications in England and Wales divided by local authority
There are 3 datasets listed by customer name. They show the applications we get from solicitors, conveyancers and lenders that use an HM Land Registry account number:
- number and types of applications by all account customers
- number and types of transactions for value by all account customers
- number of searches by all account customers
The data excludes:
- bankruptcy applications
- bulk applications
- applications that we've received but not yet completed
Abbreviations used in Transaction Data
Abbreviation | Title | Description |
---|---|---|
DFL | Dispositionary First Lease | An application to register a new lease of registered land that has been granted by the proprietor. |
DLG | Dealing | An application in respect of registered land. This includes transfers of title, charges and notices. |
FR | First Registration | An application for a first registration of freehold or leasehold land. For leasehold, this applies when the landlord’s title is not registered. |
TP | Transfer of Part | An application to register the transfer of part of a registered title. For example, selling part of a garden to a neighbour. |
OS(W) | Search of whole | An application to protect a transaction that has a monetary value, such as purchase, lease or charge for the whole of a title. |
OS(P) | Search of part | An application to protect a transaction that has a monetary value, such as purchase, lease or charge for part of a title. |
OS(NPW) | Non-priority search of whole | An application to search the whole of the register without getting priority over other searches or transactions. |
OS(NPP) | Non-priority search of whole | An application to search a part of the register without getting priority over other searches or transactions. |
OC1 | Official copy | An application to get an official copy of a register or title plan. It represents a true record of entries in the register and extent of the registered title at a specific date and time. The data includes historical editions of the register and title plan where they are kept by the registrar in electronic form. |
OC2 | Official copy of a deed or document | An application to get a copy of a document referred to in the register or that relates to an application. This includes correspondence, surveys, application forms and emails relating to applications that are pending, cancelled or completed. |
SIM | Search of the index map | An application to find out if land is registered and, if it is, to get the title number. |

The data is available free of charge for use and re-use under the Open Government Licence (OGL).

You can download the data as CSV files. If you have knowledge of software engineering, you can access the data in machine-readable format at linked data.
